The Tboli people believe in a highly-complex traditional religion that is unique to the region. Their religion is regionally-complex and is composed of the life ways and belief systems inherent to the Tboli psyche. However, in modern times, their religion has been degraded to a certain extent due to the introduction of Roman Catholicism, Protestanism, and Islam. Nevertheless, some communities continue to preserve and conserve the religion practices of their ancestors, which has been established thousands of years ago. There may be several issues that confront the T’bolis, such as health care, sustainable livelihood, education, ancestral domains, IP rights, among others, but at least their culture and tradition are ensured that it will not be regarded as a thing of the past. Those issues however also haunt other people groups all over the Philippines and the rest of the world. But as we come into the knowledge and understanding of their rich heritage, culture and tradition, we then begin to appreciate them as part of our national identity embodied in a tapestry of multi-cultural, multi-lingual society.
Textile Arts From Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The Hinabi Project (THP) promotes and sustains Philippine textile traditions. The founding director of THP is Anthony Cruz Legarda. Anthony Cruz Legarda is a Filipino American fashion designer and textile technologist who incorporates authentic handwoven fabrics from the Philippines and Asia into distinctive American apparel as well as modernizes luxurious ethnic cloth for the eco-fashion world. He is the founding director of The Hinabi Project (THP) which promotes and sustains Philippine textiles traditions. He pursued a degree in Fashion Merchandising at the City College of San Francisco and furthered his education at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, graduating in Fashion Design. Legarda’s most recent achievements include: creating an eco-friendly clothing collection for the welcome reception and fashion show during San Francisco Week at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010 and designing for Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Science & Technology Ministers from Southeast Asian countries for the 8th Asean Science and Technology week in 2008.
